On Site Counseling Needs Assessment
Students identified as at risk for emotional and behavioral problems, and those already known to have serious needs are referred to one of our counselors, to determine which service will best serve the needs of the student.
Individual Counseling offers students an opportunity to develop caring relationships with responsible adults who are specially trained to address their social and emotional needs. Through this process students experience increased self-confidence, a greater understanding of their behavioral choices, a desire to set and achieve personal goals and a greater capacity to integrate into a school/learning environment.
Group Counseling offers students the opportunity to utilize peer support to address the challenges faced during the school day. Students will become less isolated through their discovery of a common experience with their peers. Groups may organize around common needs/ themes such as impulse control, bereavement, gender-based issues, life transitions and managing family stress.
Family Counseling is offered when it is understood that the social and emotional challenges facing a student cannot be overcome without full participation of the student’s family. The CSNN counselor will make time available for parents to attend individual sessions with their child or on their own. Sessions will provide adult family members with direct support and an opportunity to gain a productive understanding of their child’s and their own experience. The CSNN counselor will arrange appointments with parents at times that best suit their needs.
Creative Arts Counseling brings the mediums of art, music, dance, drama and/or poetry to students to allow them to express their strengths, intelligence, creativity and talents as well as providing an outlet for anger, frustration, sadness and disappointment. Within the structure of a therapeutic group setting students are encouraged to: explore their life experience through creative self-expression; reflect and expound on their own experiences; and share insights and observations with other group members.
