Counseling in Schools National Network, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 community-based organization, was founded in 1986 by Cindy Jurow with a mission to bring quality counseling to students and their families in New York City Public Schools. Since then, we have remained consistent in our goals while expanding our targeted population to include administrators, teachers and support service providers. Our current partnerships include public schools throughout New York City. All of our programs are staffed and overseen by counselors with extensive experience and graduate level education in child and family counseling.
After many years of consistent, quality counseling in a select number of schools, the growing need for these types of programs became apparent as schools and funders recognized our success in working with at-risk youth and began to request more of our services. In 2004, Cindy and Kevin Dahill-Fuchel, the Assistant Executive Director, responded to the significant needs in this environment by expanding services. Since then, Counseling in Schools National Network has quadrupled in size. We remain committed to our original mission and have demonstrated our ability to meet the growing demand for our services without compromising our best professional practices.
Today CSNN provides services to a number of government initiatives, and conducts multiple programs throughout New York City. Our services address the needs of large numbers of students and families each school year. We deliver Professional Development services to the Department of Education’s guidance and teaching staff, This service has grown to reach numerous educational professionals. Six staff members oversee all direct service programs, working directly with school personel. A voluntary Board of four support the mission and further development of the organization.
